As a member of a writer’s group I am aware that although there are many of us who would love to write the bestseller full length novel there is a place for the short story.  Writing them, and in particular to a theme or length, hones the writing skills and teaches good critique to the listener when same are read out.  Besides, there is nothing worse than listening to somebody waffle at a public reading with a story that is too long - even the reading author loses interest.

As a result I have taken the advice of my fellow writers and edited my own work and not only wrote a better story but gained confidence in my own ability.  One of the benefits of this education is that I enjoy reading my own stories as much as I do those of other authors.

You may have already read Now We Are Six and  A Dish of Mince for Polly so on the next few pages try out a couple of my favourites.

The Black Cat was written for a Halloween performance evening at The Little Theatre, Sheerness - a strange evening but fun with all sorts of readings reflecting the theme On the Darker Side.

The Dude was a story written to sort out my feelings.  The story is also a short play.
