The Billabong

Acrylic on canvas

I have to thank my friend Bob Collins for my excursion into painting.  I threatened to teach him how to use a computer for writing his poems unless he gave me guidance with water colours and other forms of the art.  Bob is a respected water colour painter on the Isle of Sheppey who likes to paint local scenes as much as scenes from the so-called mainland.  Bob lives in Queenborough and is a local character and as well as a painter he is also a poet.

So, the painting?

Bob encouraged me to develop my own style and pointed me in the direction of yellows -so I took his word for it and discovered that I liked reds and yellows and the use of white to highlight and enhance the yellows.  The billabong is taken from bits and pieces of sights seen in Australia and that sense of  emptiness Australia can bring.
